In this blog, I will guide you step-by-step in creating a blog using Wix.com because many have asked, "Can you monetize a Wix site?".  Blogging has changed my life and many other online entrepreneurs allowing us to bring in either additional income or full-time income while also sharing our experiences, successes, and failures.  The best part of all, you can start a money-making blog using Wix.com.

Wix is a great platform because of its user-friendly platform and simple construction process.  Also, it is affordable compared to many other hosting sites.   In this blog, you will learn the pros and cons and then how to set up your blog page to use a template.

Step One: Open a Wix account

You can run the free version while you are setting up the site, but eventually, you will need to obtain your own URL (which is your webpage site name, for example, mine is www.dollarotter.com).

Because this blog focuses on you building a blog, not a Wix website, go to this very helpful Wix Tutorial and then return here once the site is constructed.

Step Two: Set Up Your Blog Page

I discovered the hard way that you can create two types of blogs.  There is the standard blogging method and the other is using the Wix Blog.  While the Wix Blog has some nice features to it, I've learned that it is not compatible and has several issues with the platform when trying to customize it.

For instance, the issue with resizing the title photo, fonts, etc is non-existent, but most importantly, you cannot schedule future posts.  This is a crucial part of being a blogger because blogs will require research and thought.  Due to not being able to schedule posts, you are limited to posting that day once you finalize it.

The standard method which I will explain is the simplest and most friendly, in my experience and this is what I will teach you.

Select Menu & Pages which will look like the image below.

Select "Add Page" under Menu & Pages.  You will be taken directly to that page and hopefully you header is still visible.

Next on the Menu bar to the left, give this page a name, preferably "Blog" or something like that as you will be referencing it very often.  Beside the name you will see a circle with three dots such as below.

Select this circle then select "Settings" in which the below image comes up allowing you to make some very important updates to this page allowing future viewers and search engines to find this page.

In the image you will find four tabs, Page Info, Layouts, Permissions, & SEO.  Under the Page Info Tab, the page name should be clear and concise.  Keep it simple as this will appear in the menu.  If you do not want this page to be visible to your audience, then slide the bar over nex to "Hide from menu".

Next, click on the SEO (Google) Tab.  This is what will be reflected in Google when people like you and me are searching. Take a look at the below image.

When it comes to SEO, Search Engine Optimization, it is fundamentally important that you learn to basics.  Without SEO, you will have a a very difficult time getting traffic (people) to visit your website.   There are numerous different resources to use that I recommend you use.   My favorite and the superior SEO Marketing tool in my opinion is SEMRush.

Before we dive further into this, here are my top recommended SEO Resources for you:

  • SEMRush

  • AnswerThePublic

  • KWFinder

  • Keywords Everywhere (this is a browser install)

  • Google Keyword Planner

SEO is important because you need to find how often people are searching for keywords.  These keywords must be used naturally in sentences throughout your blog and SEO description making it easier to find.  Think of it as a new store that has opened.  Nobody knows that your store is open, let alone what products you have on the shelf.  SEO helps you to get information out to the public.

Now that this tab has been filled out with keywords, click on your new page to return to the blank page.  If you do not have a header and menu, then here is an example below.

Go to the "+" on the left side and then select "Blog".

You now have a few options in customizing you blog.  You may choose the Recent Posts or Featured Posts.  Recent posts will only show the most recent ones based on the number of posts you designate it to reflect.

After you write each post, you can select the star button after completion to label it as a Featured Post.  Any posts in which you label as Featured, will only show in the Featured Post. Simple enough right?

Now you need to determine which style of font and color matches well with the type of posts you are writing and which niche.  Both need to be clearly visible and easy to read via desktop and mobile.  In the upper right corner, you will see a phone icon with the words Mobile.  Select this to visually see how it will appear on a smartphone.

Step Three: Adding Photos

You will find that when adding photos with text, isn't always in sync between desktop and mobile.  To save you time and effort, you will need several text boxes and post a photo in between these text boxes.  See below.

You must then add another text box after the photo to keep it seemless.  After you have done this, it will look like the below.

ELEGANT TITLE

After your Title, include YOur text up until you want to add a Photo.  For Example, When Building a House, Review the following BluePrint:

You can Also crop the photo and adding filters to match your theme and making it more relevant.

These steps that I have outlined above will get you started in starting a blog on Wix.  The more you practice the better you will become using Wix.  Just a quick note that you MUST NOT publish the website until you have reviewed everything and feel comfortable with posting it to the web.  Think of your website as a store.  If you still have shelves empty and you are still stocking it with merchandise, you wouldn't open the store yet or have a Grand Opening.  Be Smart.

Once you have your site established, you can then start to monetize it.  I have an online course, Affiliate Marketing Blueprint, where I discuss which affiliates are the top ranked in the industry and why you should pick them, which niches work best, how to monetize your site using affiliates, marketing, advertising, consultation services and promotions.
