If you are looking for opportunities to earn extra income or take the steps toward earning a salary from home, then this article is a start.

In this article, you will explore 15 opportunities to make money working in your home or online.

1. Create an Online Course

You don't need a Bachelor's degree in education or a teaching certificate. With online resources to create your own course, you can teach about subjects that interest you and the topics you are passionate about.

Ruth Soukup is a depression survivor who struggled to find joy in her life. She has since transformed herself into many things that we all strive for in our life.

She is a New York Times best-selling author, a podcaster, TedX speaker, and is the founder of Elite Blogging Academy.

Her online academy, while a money-making machine, walks new online entrepreneurs towards success by learning what worked for her and her team while creating a robust and supportive online community.

Another terrific example is Michelle Schroeder who is an online blogger and earns over $130,000 per month. Yes, a month.

Looking for ways to pay off her student loan debt, she found her journey by creating an online course, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.

So how and where can you create an online course? First, find a subject of a topic that you can deliver value to someone. Are you passionate about it?

Next, take a few courses to discover what people are looking for and what is expected. The two best places to create a course are Udemy and Teachable.

You can literally make a course for just about anything: How to Drive, How to Bake, How to Cut Hair, etc. The best part about building online classses is you don't need a website. I must recommend to you that you take the time to create a quality course.

2. Get Paid to Review & Critique Websites

How would you like to get paid to review websites or apps?  With UserTesting, you can earn up to $60 per test by visiting a website or app, complete a set of tasks (usually speaking your mind through a microphone for recording), and then uploading it to UserTesting. The company will review for quality and then pay you via PayPal.

The website has been getting praises from The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, The New York Times, Lifehacker, and more.

With over 3 million tests taken by users, you can expect to get paid after seven days upon completing a task.  This is one online job that pays well and is a legitimate online job.

3.  How to Become a Freelancer

One of the fastest ways to make an income is to become a freelance entrepreneur. You may have a skill that is in high demand. With job opportunities in fields such as Digital Marketing, Programming & Tech, Excel Spreadsheets, Writing and Translation, search among thousands of jobs, and make a bid.

Having launched another online business before Dollar Otter, I ran a consulting firm and the majority of my income derived from freelance work.

If you aren't familiar with how freelance, check out the website, Fiverr.com.

The process to sign is simple to sign up, but I recommend you take your time. Remember, you are competing with other entrepreneurs, so you need to learn how to sell yourself.

4.  Get Your Real Estate License

With the baby boomers on the verge of selling their homes, and the U.S. housing market experiencing inventory shortages, it may be prime time to get your real estate license.

Some of the benefits of being a real estate agent are the flexible schedule, earnings potential, and ability to help your community. After meeting your state's requirements, you can work as an independent contractor while honing your skills to become the best in your area.

Each state has their own requirements, but learning the material is simple with The CE Shop as they are highly rated and carry study materials for every state.

5.  Become a Life Insurance Agent

Before you skip over this section, hear me out (or finish reading). I was a life-licensed insurance rep, and it was a great way to earn passive income.

People need life insurance because most people don't have it and when tragedy strikes, they are always asking loved ones and family members to help foot the bill for funeral costs when that is the last thing they want to think about.

Selling policies part-time can earn you from $85 + (max unlimited) per month.

In the next few sections, you will explore a few ways from how can you make money, and how you can make money right now.

6.  Drive for Lyft

Ridesharing has become so popular that I decided to put my money where my mouth is and drive for Lyft over one weekend to see its earning potential. Over the course of four days, here are my results.

Because of my transparency, here is a snapshot of my Lyft earnings from Thursday until Sunday in April of 2018.  Yes, in four days in made $406.38.  In reality, I made $20 bucks more because of cash tips which Lyft doesn’t see.

After doing this for four days, I honestly believe I could have made over $600 because the first few days I had a learning curve and quickly made up for it the last two days.  As with any new venture, I quickly learned the hot population spots for pick ups and I even tracked when airlines flew into my local airport.

I chose a variety of hours and worked 24 hours in four days which is an average of 6 hours per day, but I would pick 1-2 hours early morning and 3-4 hours late in the evening.

If you are looking to make some extra money, use this hyperlink to jump start you a fast bonus.

Some things that I was not aware of is the numerous rewards and benefits that come along with being assigned as a Lyft driver.

7.  Be a Charger for Electric Scooters

By offering low cost in transportation, literally a dollar for most commutes, Bird is rapidly becoming a popular choice to quickly get from point A to point B in major cities.

The company has notched "a $2 billion valuation in less than a year" after launching in 2017.  Scooters are no longer for kids.  From college students to businessmen and women looking for a faster method of getting to their destination, these electric scooters are rapidly becoming popular.

Similar to Lyft, you will typically get paid the next day.  Despite weekends or weekdays, as long as you can put the scooters in a particular designation, called Nest, between the hours of 4 am - 7 am, you will receive payment.

8. Yard Work

This company has a plethora of jobs you can perform to earn money. I have hired someone from TaskRabbit to handle my yard work when I have super busy weeks and just can't get to it.

It is app based that searches for availability within your area and you hire based on what you determine is the best price, best rating, etc. Flip that around, and you can work for money.

Promote your skills and expertise to get paid! I'm always seeing ads on here from people looking for assistance to clean, move or assemble furniture, haul away trash, wash a car, and much more.

These next jobs listed below are more time consuming.  This will require additional work up front before bearing any income.

9. Get Paid to Shop

Yes, I wrote that correctly and didn't believe it initially. Although I am not a big shopper, I do buy groceries and with the app from Ibotta.

I typically make anywhere from $4-$10 back from my groceries. The process is easy. Once the app is downloaded and you have set up your account, once you have the receipt from shopping, you find that store in the list and select which products you purchased.

Next, use the QR scanner to scan the code on the receipt, and it uploads. In a few seconds, Ibotta will match up any offers available. After you sign up, you will receive a cash bonus. Here are a few screenshots below.

10. Write & Sell Ebooks

While it is challenging to make a lot of money from selling ebooks, it is a great way to earn passive income. I have been selling the same ebooks on Amazon for two years now with consistent income anywhere from $5-$25 a month.

While it isn't anything substantial, it is regular income that I don't have to keep promoting. I recommend you google KDP Amazon to get started.

11. Selling on Amazon

While we just discussed one platform from Amazon, another service this company offers is their Amazon Affiliate Program.

Similar to other affiliate marketing, Amazon is the leading industry in consumer products being sold. This firm went from just selling books to shipping your orders the same day. They continue to revolutionize the business market.

12. Start Your Own Blog

It wouldn't be fair to keep this one off the list since I too am a blogger. Blogging has opened up so many opportunities for people like you looking to make a difference and find a career that is satisfying.

While it does take some time to earn an income from blogging, the sooner you start, the better. My secret is to continue learning from others in your niche and apply what you learn.

Secondly, get a mentor! When you start a blog, you need to get the best resources possible.

I recommend two sources: WordPress and Wix, because of the added features you'll need later down the road when you expand your blog. Most other sites do not have this capability.

You will need a hosting site to get started, so I encourage you to go with bluehost for $3.95 a month. It comes with a free domain, simple one-click WordPress install, free site builders, and 30-day money back guarantee!

One of the best resources that I have purchased as a blogger (and I still refer to this day) is a bundle deal I bought from Ultimate Bundles.

It contains over 37 resources from every niche, every avenue designed to help you master creativity, product promotion and much more.

An even better value is once you obtain the content, you can earn a commission by referring others to their site and help benefit fellow bloggers like yourself.

Don't think bloggers make money? Well, my friend Alexis of Fitnancials explains how she went from $1K per month to earning over $10K in a year.

For more information on how to make extra money, I highly recommend you review my friend's blog from the Butler Journal, 40+ Ways to Make Extra Money This Month, as well as, Frugal Family Adventures, Make Money with your Trash Today.

13. Become a Virtual Assistant

Virtual Assistants (VA) are in demand right now. Most notably for Pinterest. This is because numerous businesses are shifting to this visual search engine for web traffic and with the content creation, pinning, SEO, and keyword descriptions that are involved to making pins work, businesses rarely have time for this.

Especially small businesses who need to run the day-to-day tasks. So they typically hire this out.

Most of these jobs can pay anywhere from $25-$100 per hour depending on your talent and experience. So be sure you "up your game" by taking my course.

14.  Sell Stock Photography

The web has laid the foundation to take and sell photos online. As long as you have a decent camera or smartphone, you can sell pictures too. The trick isn't to just upload multiple random images online. I use Shutterstock Contributor and watching their free tutorials and videos show you everything you need to get started.

Another terrific resource is taking an online class through Ultimate Bundles. This course expires this summer and is highly recommended among most of the blogging community is The Photography Super Bundle.

The course teaches you how to find the perfect lighting, choose the best settings, frames impressive shots, and much more. It is indeed an all-in-one resource and super affordable. You will receive access to 19 ebooks, 15 ecourses, 6 photography tools such as presets and templates, and online guide.

16.  Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk)

Crowdsourcing is very common in the online marketplace.  For instance, if a business has a task (let's say a budget spreadsheet needs to be built), and the people within the company are not spreadsheet savvy, the company will outsource the job.

Once posting the job, many entrepreneurs will put in their bid and provide relevant work history.  The company can then select the candidate best for the task and will be hired to complete it.

Amazon has its own global workforce helping companies and entrepreneurs with difficult tasks, data validation, or analysis that may be difficult elsewhere.

How much does Amazon's MTurk pay?
The amount paid will vary from task to task.  While content writing may pay a designated amount per word, other tasks may have a fixed price.  Learn more at MTurk.com

17.  Teach Online or Remote

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2017, there were 6,651,536 students enrolled in an online course.

With enrollment this large, it has opened opportunities for teachers, instructors, and professors.

How much do online teachers make?  As of January 7, 2020, the base salary for online teachers varies with averages from $39,888 to $42,579 a year according to Glassdoor.com.

A terrific source for you to start searching is HigherEdJobs. As of the writing of this article, there were 303 vacancies for remote and online teaching jobs.
